KING GEORGE IN FRANCE. AX INFORMAL VISIT. London, Oct. 2G. A number of informal incidents characterised tlit King's tour in Franco. Poincare reviewed the. British troops, and the King and the Prince of Wales visited two of the French armies. His Majesty, with M. Poincare's approval, gave General Jolfre a message of congratulation for the French troops. and M. Poincare conferred the War Cross upon the Prince of Wales.

The High Commissioner reports under date London, October 20 (5.10 p.m.) : North-east of Massignes a sudden attack gave the Allies the mastery of a Gcrmau trench in proximity to the positions recently captured. There is a stubborn resistance by the Allied troops and their offensive, immediately it was resumed, broke the German counter-attacks. In the Balkans the report is false that the French have been beaten hack on the right bank of the Yardar. DEATH-SENTENCED BELGIANS NEUTRAL AUTHORITIES PROTEST. By the attempt to break through at Prones -on October 20th, the Germans hoped to capture Rheims, and thus create a decisive effect in the Balkans. The German losses in two days are estimated at being two divisions. Whole columns were mowed down, and sixteen hundred corpses were counted along a distance of less than a kilometre.
