A YEAR OF WAR.
I DKmWRATIOiNS ' NEXT WtEDNIES- | DAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. I Tne Prime Minister, the Right Hon. W. F. Masscy, has written to the Mayor j of every city and borough, in New Zealand, asking for co-operation in the proposed National Patriotic demonstration on the anniversary of the outbreak of the war. " The Government," mna the letter, "has received a request that New Zealand should co-operate in giving affect to the proposal that on August 4, being the anniversary of the outbreak of war between England and Germany, ad parts of the British Empire should join in demonstrating its union and determination. An Identical resolution will be proposed at public meetings heM on that dky tteougbout Great Britain and its dependencies, and the Government invites your Worship to convene a public meeting to be held in your city on August 4, and to propose to such meeting the resolution, which is in the following terms: 'That, on this anniversary of the declaration of a righteous war, this meetiug of tihe citizens of records its inflexible determination to continue to ft victorious end the struggle in maintenance of those ideals of liberty and justice which are the common and sacred cause of tlie Allies.'" The Prime Minister recently communion ted with the heads of all the various religious denominations in New Zealand, suggesting that, following the example tint has been set in Great Britain, Sunday, August 8, should be set apart in the various churches as a day of intercession on account of the war, and tlie serious crisis through which the Empire is passing. Mr. Masscy has already received replies from, most of the denominations, expressing hearty concurrence in the suggestion, and stating that the churches will act in the direction indicated.
