Dnthie's question, as to the reason why the mails were not despatched by the steamer Maranm. from San Francisco, on .fulv 22. the Minister for Interna] Allan's >ai'd that no mails wen- despatched from lfome to meet the vessel. These mails arc now expected to arrive at Melbourne on August 13, and to reach Sow Zealand five or six days later. The Sporting Laws Continuance Bill was received from .the Lower House, and committal was made on the order-paper for Tuesday. The Marriage Amendment Hill and Settled Lands Amendment Hill wee read a second time, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee, and the Birth and Deaths Registration Amendment, Bill was read a second time.
Further leave of absence, on account of illness, was granted the lion. R. K. Simpson for three weeks, and the Council ros«.
