In the Sydney Sun last Thursday was published a J-ondon cable message stating that "Mr Peir/ber Reeves, a wellknown New Zealandcr, formerly AgentCeneral for tho Dominion, was arrested as a spy at Arras. He was taken before the. German commandant, who interrogated him, and then ordered his release." The. death is reported at Willowbridge (South OanterhuoTji) ot' one of the earliest of Riveiton, Mr J. The death occurred at Dunedin on Monday of Mr James Nutting, of the Public Work* Department, at the age of fifty years. The deceased was horn at. Pimlico (Kngland), and when yuite young came out to Queensland wiuu his parents. Later they came to New Zealand, and soUlcd in Dunedin. Mr Nutting was educated in 'Dunedin, and over twenty years ago ho joined ihe PuMic Work's Department in Cisbonne, but was subsequently transferred to Dunedin "in the capacity of storekeeper, which position he held at tho time of his death.
There is every reason to believe that Mr Horace Hunt, the gifted Wellington pianist, in being .held as a prisoner in Berlin. His sister. Mrs. Striakland, has received a postcard from hev brotlie.r, dated Berlin, August 12, written apparently in good spirits, and wishing her a •happy Christmas, New Year and Easter! j -Mr ß Strickland was Btruek by thin absence of any remarks expressive of his ( feelings or desire to bo safe in England, but, it is well known, Mr Hunt would not Iba allowed t.o write anything in that vein. Mr Hunt, who was organist and ohokmaster at The Terrace Congregational Church, and very well known in musical circles in Wellington arid Auckland, left hero about two years ago to complete his musical gtudids in thV bid World, and has been resident in Germany for over a year.
