Hanby, late of New Plymouth, and Mrs. K. 0. Robinson, of Stratford. On Tuesday evening, Mr. H. Spurdle was presented by the members of the Clifton Rowing Club with a sold watch and chain in recognition of 'his maiix years service as secretary.

The death is reported at Greymout'i* of Mr. John Dowling, of Paroa, at the age of eighty-one years. Deceased, who was a native of Tipperary, took part in the Otago gold rushes, being at Gabriel's Gnlly in the early 'sixties. He landed in llokitika in 1864, being one of the pioneers of the West Coast goldlields. Later ho settled in Paroa, where he lived with liis family for close on half a eentury.
