The New Hebrides

The newspaper L'lJommo Libre slates that the New Hebrides negotiations arc likely to be protracted, as Australian ff Imperialism lias thrown its weight into the balance. The newspaper suggests . that France should exchange the New Hebrides for Mauritius, it PRESBYTERIAN MISSION. By Telegraph— Pr,;;s Association. j . Duiiedin, Last Night. A deputation consisting of Professor Ilcwitson (convenor of the Foreign Mise sions Committee of the Presbyterian . Church), Dr. Bowie (lately in charge of the hospital at Ambrim) and Mr. P. L. Clark (who recently visited the New 1 Hebrides on behal/ of the Presbyterian Church) were this morning introduced ; to the Prime Minister by Mr. G. M. Thomson. M.P. . ' The deputation asked that the Government should endeavor to secure for the church some security of tenure in , the New Hebrides, as it was proposed to proeed with the erection of a hospital at Ambrim to replace the one that was _ destroyed. The unsatisfactory condition of the administration at the present time rendered it desirable that the Church should secure a better tenure. Mr. Massey expressed his sympatic with the objects of the deputation, and his readiness to do what lay in his power. He pointed out, however, that the matter was really an international. one. He would bring it before the Go vernment.
