GREEKS THREATEN A STEWARD'*! LIFE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Wednesday.. Harold Nelson was arrested on 4 charge of deserting from the steamor Hollington. Tie was steward on the vessel. He asserts that the Creek crow had told hiin he could have the choice when again on the high seas between knifing and being thrown overboard, fie was, he states physically fit when Uo left Newport on New Year's Day; today he was just a bundle of nerves, T t hail been a common sight to see the foreigners .among the crew using th°ir knives and fighting with them. He was toid on his arrival at Auckland that !>e had to make up his manifest. He knrw the Greeks had quantities of tobaeeo, and it was his duty to inform the Customs officers that t ; hey refused to »e- ---' coun,t for it. The crew thereupon swore it would be the end of him. They rushed the cabin, and when he bolted the door they smashed the porthole, and he was lucky to escape with his life, In Court to-day the police said that the charge that he had deserted would not be proceeded with, nor would Nelson be required to join the ship, provided he paid the costs, £2 10». This he agveed to and wag discharged.
