NEW GUINEA.
WHAT THE EXPEDITION FOUND. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, May 5.. Judge Murray, the Papuan Administrator, has arrived.
Interviewed regarding the recent exploration of the Fly River, he said that the party ascended 530 miles. In one village they found the natives wearing cuirasses of thickly-plaited rattan cane, as a shield against arrows. In addition to bows and arrows they carried as weapons egg-shaped stone clubs with leng handles. In another place they witnessed evolutions by disciplined men, which were rarely seen in Papua. In the upper reaches they found traces of gold. Judge Murray thinks that if Sir Rupert Clarke finds gold in payable quantities a rush will ensue, which will solve the present problem of the future settlement and development of the island.
