Armed to the Teeth
FOR THE PRESERVATION OF PEACE. A FRENCHMAN'S APPEAL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright / London, April 16. M. Ernest Lavisse, president of the French League, in a letter to the Times, appeals for the maintenance and •trengthening of the Triple Entente. It was first necessary to arrange a few paltry outstanding questions. , It was for England to decide, in view of France's great effort to increase her military strength, whether she ought to increase hers. M. Lavisse asks: "Has everything been thought out for the eventual employment of our armed forces! We may be sure the Triple Alliance has foreseen and calculated everything in view of possible war. Although the Entente worked loyally together in the recent diplomatic crisis, it appeared less united *nd coherent than the Triple Alliance. The Great Powers are armed to the teeth; they say at present that they intend to keep the peace, and the task of the Entente is to prolong this condition."
