THE NEW ZEALAND TOUR OF AUSTRALIA. CANTERBURY CRITICISM. By Telogxaph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At tlie management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association to-night,, sub-eomniittee set up to consider/ the balance-sheet of the. New Zealand* team's Australian tour reported with reference to the allowance of 5s a day to the players: "Your committee is opposed to the general principle of such an allowance. It is to be regretted that the management committee did not take the contributing associations into J heir confidence in the matter. The man•gement committee, in their published explanation of the item, could hardly have been serious when they stated that they were bound under their rules to reimburse the players. In our opinion. no such obligation is imposed on them by rule 19. Your committee think that Uie cost of caps and blazers should have been borne by the Council. The committee thinks that while the expenses of the tour were probably kept within.reasonable limits it is unfortunate for the Council that the actual cost so largely exceeded the estimate, especially as the Council had had an experience of a previous tour to guide them. Another matter for regret is that responsible members of the team published statements on their return that the tour had been a financial success. This naturally (accentuated the disappointment felt by the contributing associations when it was ultimately found that the guarantees had been almost wholly swallowed up." The report was adopted, and it was decided to forward a copy to the New .Zealand Cricket Council.
