The principal root, the . ; All-Aged Stakes; proved a magnificent ' struggle, the issue being in doubt almost right up to the winning point.' Bon ~ Reve proved vastly superior on the day to all others in the Coogee Handicap. North-East was again a disappointment. Excitement rose high when it turned out to be a race between two. Either Lilyveil is a better horse than Radnor, or, as it appeared to the spectators, he wan better ridden. North-East made the most of the running to three .''■ furlongs from home, when he dropped back and finished nowhere. Amid tremendous excitement, Older forged ahead inch by inch, and won by a long neck, Relievo beating V Beau Soult by a head. The others were hunched close behind.
