EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. The patrons who braved the cold blast last night and attended at the Empire Theatre, were treated to one of the finest entertainments possible. Not only was it a fine picture programme, but i the orchestra, under Mr. Gerald van Heck, provided an artistic and delightful musical entertainment that was fully appreciated by the whole audience. The orchestra has" been strengthened by Mr. Syd. Cottier (clarionet) and it is undoubtedly one of the finest theatre orchestras in the Dominion. The musical entertainment will always be a feature at this theatre. During this week, Mr. G. van Heck will 1 be heard in a number of special solo" pieces. ~ '; v \ THEATRE ROYAL. A banquet of delicacies was served np in the Theatre Royal last evening, when "The Escape of the White Glove Gang" :waß the star attraction. The story, briefly, is the capture of a gang of desperadoes, with the exception of the leader, oTie De Croze, and its lady secretary. It is the hunting down of these two, in which motor launches are utilised, that the biggest thrill comes in. The finale is one of great beauty, the burning flotsam of what was once a sailing vessel on a moonlit sea. The Vltagraph Company is to be highly commended for the excellence and artistry of its society drama "Two Women and Two Men," or more aptlv named "And A Little Child Shall Lead Them." It found great favor with the audience. A trip through portions of the famous St. Gothard tunnel constitutes one of the most delightful scenic films ever pictured. All animal lovers should see the splendid canine specimens in the Australian Gazette and others in a film entitled "Faithfril Dumb Friends." Maiv a hearty laugh is created bv "Buck's" Romance," a SpHjt cornedv drama. "Caßey at the Bat," and "Jim Goes Fencing Mad,' are screamers, especially the latter.
