THE JOURNALISTS' AWARD. Per Press Association. Christchurch. Thursday. The Arbitration Court is taking the dispute between 4he Canterbury Journalists' Union and the city newspapers. Mr. Pirani. for the employers, raised the question whether the Court should make an award. Mr. Justice Sim said he would bear argument on this point in the usual course. Later he mentioned that there would have to be stroiis reasons whv the Court should not make an award in face of the agree-, ments entered into elsewhere, hi his preliminary statement, Mr. Pirani said the question of preference was of the utmost importance. Mr. Justice Sim said it had been conceded in the Dunedin agreement. The Union is calling evidence. JOURNALISTS' AWARD. .WW. ■' • W • Christchurch, Last Night. The hearing of the journalists' dispute lasted all through the day until late in the eveninsr. witnesses coming from Dunediu and Wellington as well as Christchurch. The employers objected strongly to preference to unionists and to the limitation of hours. The Court adjourned in order that a conference might, be held between the parties with a view to coming to an agreement.
