FRENCH ANNEX AN ISLAND. By irue —Pres=. 1 ' "Nation—Copyright. Received' 19, 10 p.m. Suva, June 19. The Kcrsaint from Wallis Island, on Tuesday, left to-day, great secrecy being observed. The Fiji Times states that on arrival at Wallis Island, M. Broehard. French Commissioner, induced the chiefs to petition Fiance to convert the island into a protectorate. The annexation -was granted, and the Tricolour hoisted, It is supposed this will end the conflict between the Catholic missionaries and the French Commissioner.
