SIR JOSEPH WARD.
A FAREWELL RECEPTION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. , London, June 18. Mr. T. Mackenzie entertained Sir Joseph Ward at a farewell luncheon at the Trocadero. Amongst those present Wore Mr. U'wis llarcourt (Secretary of State for the Colonies), Lord Eminott (Under-Secretary). Sir John Anderson (Permanent Under-Secretary), Lord IMyth, Sir George Reid and several Agents-General. Mr. Mackenzie, in proposing Sir Joseph Ward's health, said that New Zealaiid was indebted to Sir Joseph Ward for the Advances to Settlers act and, in a wider sense, for postal reform and the gift of a Dreadnought. Sir George Keid said that as long as Sir Josi-pli Ward lived the Empire would ' have a powerful advocate. Sir Joseph Ward, responding, paid a tribute to the judges of the Motherland. Mr. llarcourt declared that he appreciated the references to the judiciary. He hoped shortly to pass a Bill giving effect to the wishes expressed at the Imperial Conference, when he trusted to gee a New Zealand judge taking his place on the Judicial Committee. Mr. Harcourt' concluded by wishing Sir Joseph Ward au re voir.
