THE WINTER SHOW.
A SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION. The six days of the Winter Show have produced the splendid takings of £4OO, the last two days being responsible for £3O of this sum. On Tuesday evening the result of the cake-guessing competition was announced, no less than eighteen competitors guessing the exact amount. The weight was 251b., and the following were the successful ones, who divided the cake between them:—Mrs. Stephenson, Messrs. J. Connett, J. Commerar, R. Stoddart, B. S. King, R. H. Gordge, T. Hall, N. W. Hill, W. C. Stanley, A. H. Avery, E. Elliott, N. A. Hill, C. S. Sanders, B. O'Brien, B. Tippins, R. P. Sliaw, P. Farrell, and E. A. Johnston. The guesses ranged from 41b up to 1901b. On the concluding evening, an impromptu concert, arranged by Mr. G. I W. Henderson, considerably enlivened the proceedings. Songs were given by Messrs. J. W. Haslam, Van Stavern, and Ellison, and recitations by Messrs E. F. Lux, H. Cole, and Goldsworthy. Miss "Buckman and Mr. Fredericks kindly •played the- accompaniments. During the evening, Mr. A. W. Wood, in a short speech, paid a great tribute to the enormous amount of work put into the Show by the president (Mr. J. S. Connett). Undoubtedly he was the right man for the position, and the same oould be said about the secretary, (Mr. A. L. Humphries). Mr. Wood also thanked the stallholders on behalf of the Society, for their support, and alsO'the public generallyiforits patron'and'a*:'Mscali''a, hearty vote of thanks was accorded the- 1 committee. >
