ESCAPE FROM PRISON.
A QUICK RECAPTURE, Per Press Association.
Wellington, Last Night. Patrick O'Donovan took his departure from the Terrace Gaol this afternoon without the sanction of the authorities, and as a result of subsequent search, was found in the Royal Tiger Hotel, where his enjoyment of a cigar and a beaker of ale was rudely disturbed by the police, who escorted him back to gaol. O'Donovan, who is serving a sentence of three years' imprisonment for assault and robbery, was working in the prison yard, and made an opening in the galvanised iron • fence with the handle of a bucket, so that he could get out when the guard's attention was directed elsewhere. Once outside, he secured civilian clothes, and wandered down to the hotel. When he was found, his liberty had lasted about four hours. O'Donovan made a bolt from prison on May 9th last with John Lewis, the pair being caught next day by mounted constables, who overawed the escapees with revolvers when threatened with sand bags.
