Aitken, headmaster of the Victoria Avenue School, speaking as a Sunday school teacher of 40 years experience, said that there was no doubt religious instruction should be given in schools, for ignorance of the Bible was lamentable, but he was opposed to school teachers imparting that instruction. He moved: "That as citizens and taxpayers oi tins Dominion we pledge ourselves to oppose the scheme of the Biblo in Schools League, as conflicting with the lights of conscience and inimical to the real interests of religion and religious peace. The motion was carried.
