MINERS' WAGES INCREASED. By Cable—Press London, May 25, The Northumberland miners have secured an increase in wages of 6% per cent. RAILWAYMEN'S UNIONS. London, May 25. A conference of the Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen at Leeds refused, by 55 votes to 4, to take a ballot concerning the fusion of the railway unions. AGRICULTURAL DISCONTENT. London, May 25. There is much discontent among farm workers in Lancashire. Trouble is threatened. A number of laborers have been locked out at Dunholland for demanding increased wages and overtime beyond twelve hours, and a half-holiday dh Saturday. TRADE UNION BALLOTS. London, May 25. Hitherto trade union ballots have been much of a farce. The chief registrar has now issued rules for the working of the Act and setting aside the Osborne judgment. The rules prescribe that before a union can devote its funds to any political object it must be agreed upon by a ballot, in the taking of which absolute secrecy must be ensured. The registrar has also issued strong rules for the keeping of political levies separate.
