LABOR TROUBLES.
THREAT EXEC SHIPYARD STRIKE. 500,000 AFFECTED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received IS, 5.5 p.m. London, May 17. The unions participating in the ballot cabled on May 2 represent 110,000 skilled workers, tout if, as several large employers fear, it leads to a strike in June, half a million will be affected. There have been three successive advances of 5 per cent, since the 1910 Act. [A London cablegram, dated May 2, stated:—The unrest of shipyard workers is growing. The members of various unions in the federated districts have been circularised and asked to decide whether they will accept the masters' proposal to adjourn the request for increased wages for three months or notify a strike unless the demands are conceded.] THE MIXERS' STRIKE. \ London, May 1(5. Owing to the persistence of the campaign organised by the South Wales Miners' Federation, the resistance of non-uionists has collapsed, and 50,000 have joined the Federation within a fortnight. This is mainlv due to the relaxation of the rules as to entrance fees and strikes and well-organised demonstrations.
