The distinetion of being the oldest human being in the world is claimed for Wah-ha-Guu-Ta, a Blackfoot Indian of tlm United States. There is good evidence to show that this man. whose name means ''Chief Eire Maker." was born in 1781, so that this year ho reaches his one hundredth and thirty-second birthday. Wah-ha-C.un-Ta was the first red mail in his territory to visit ''The Great White Father," and his journey to Washington to meet President •lefi'erson was a notable event in his life. He is regarded as an oracle by his tribesmen, who have a tradition that at his birth the father of all the spirits shot an arrow near his tepee, as a prophecy that he would live for ever. Photographs of the old brave show a wonderfully lined and rugged face.
