FARMERS' CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hawera, Monday. At a meeting of <ifty delegates of farmers held at Hawera, representative of the whole of the province, it was unanimously decided to form a Farmers' Cooperative Organisation Society. A provisional prospectus was drawn up. An executive committee was appointed and Mr. (i. IT. Buckeridge was appointed chairman of the executive. The company, which will have an initial capital of £500,000, will have for its object the purchasing of farmers' requisites and the distribution of their produce. BETTING IN AN HOTEL. Wellington, Monday. The Magistrate. Mr. Ridden, to-day dismissed the charges against two hotelkeepers of conniving at gambling on licensed premises. Salvatore Salvey, charged with betting in an hotel, was fined £2O. In the course of judgment in the cases against publicans, Mr. Uiddell held that betting was not gaming within the meaning of the Act. In the other case, in which it was alleged that a bookmaker was charged with betting in a public place, to wit a billiard room, the defendant's counsel contended that a billard room was not a public place. Judgment was reserved. EGMONT A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. Hawera, Monday. The annual meeting of the Egmont A. and P. Association was held on Saturday. It was shown that the association had made a profit of £2(51 on the year's working . The last entries were a record for the association and showed ■mi increase of 200 over any previous fixture. Mr. B. C. Lysaght was elected president.
