HOSPITAL ELECTION PROBLEM.
. KNOTTY (POINT SOLVED. V By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last- night. During tho campaign of Mrs. Dr. Platts Mills for a seat on the Hospital Board, the question was raised whether she, being a member pf the honorary j medical staff of the Hospital, was elig- ' ible for election. She headed the poll : with 14,088 votes. The secretary wrote to the Board's solicitor for an opinion ■ on the matter, and this was read at today's meeting oE the Beard. The solicitors stated tlut a member of the honorary staff was not disqualified by reason of holding'sueh a position, provided no pecuniary profit was made from it, During a brief discussion on the matter. Mr, Nash asked who had questioned Dr. Platts Mills's position, and he expressed the dpinion that such an action . was, wrong. Rev W. A. Evans (the Chair: man of the Board) said that the secretary had mentioned the matter to him and, as he was not prepared to give an opinion, he suggested reference to the solicitors. Dr. Platts Mills' saiil that, on hearing rumours, she had obtained leg.il advice and was informed that her election was in order. Mr. Baldwin said it was he who had mentioned the matter to -the secretary, as he considered that it was onlv fair, in view of the rumours going about that Dr. Platts Mills's position should be established. The Chairman remarked that it was satisfactory to find that the election was ■■leal and he hoped that ore would be heard about it.
