AN EARTHQUAKE SHOOK.
TREMORS IX THE SOUTH. Per Press Association. Invercargill, Saturday. A sharp earthquake was experienced at 10.10 this morning, preceded by a rumbling and strong smell of sulphur. At Gore there was also a severe shock at the same time. Dunedin, Last Night. A sharp earth tremor was felt at 10.7 this morning. The: vibration continued ' for three or four seconds. The telegraph olTice reports the direction as from N.W. to S.E., but country stations' place it as due north and south. __ At Omakau the shock was severe. ' ! SEVERE SHOCK IX INVERCARGILL. Invercargill, Last Xight. • One of the severest earthquakes that have occurred in Invercargill was experienced at 10.10 on Saturday morning. The motion was from north to south, and lasted about ten seconds. Those in upper storeys were alarmed by the vibration of the buildings, and the timid rushed out into the streets, afraid that something serious woud happen. Crockery on shelves rattled and windows creaked. No damage was done.
