TREE-PLANTING FOR INVALIDS. AN OCCUPATION FOR CONSUMPTIVES. Per Press Association. Auckland, Friday. An interesting point in the/ evidence given before the Forestry Commission was a suggestion made by Dr. Makgill regarding iiie suitability iof tree-plant-ing as work for convalescent consumptives. Dr. Makgill said that in 1!)08 a trial of the system had been made in a small way eight miles from Rotonia, A camp of 14 men carried on the work with reasonable success. Tree-planting was work suitable for consumptives, but the trial was given up mi the middle of 1010. as the walk to and from planting became rather long for semi-invalids. Dr. Makgill added that be thought it would be quite possible to establish a cam]) of (10 men in the Taupo district to undertake such work. It was verv difficult to get consumptives in sanatoria to work, and it was in many cases better for the patient's treatment to persuade him to work from the tirst. Dr. Makgill said that' on any of the liirht pumice lands there wis an opportunity of starting tree-planting if the districts themselves wanted it,'mid the conditions
