VISIT TO NAPIER. GREAT INTEREST SHOWN . Per Press Association. Napier, Last Night. A great deal of interest was manifested locally in the visit of the battle cruiser New Zealand at Napier to-day. The vessel arrived at 7.30 a.m., and subsequently an official visit of welcome was paid, and the Mayor (Mr. J. Vigor Brown, M.P.), and Mr. A. E. Jull, Chairman of the Harbor Board, who were received on board by Captain Halsey. Later in the day Captain Halsey and officers were the guests of the Mayor and Councillors at luncheon at .the Masonic Hotel, after which Captain Halsey and two of his officers visited the golf links, the remainder going to the Arataki Experimental Farm. About 2.50 of the men came ashore about midday, marched through the town, and to the Harrison Hall, where they were entertained to lunch. A varied sports gathering was held on the Marine Parade, and games of Rugby and Soccer football were played against the local lads. The visiting sailors were later entertained at tea in the Clarrison Hall. In the evening the men attended a complimentary concert given in their honor in the Municipal Theatre, some of them contributing to the programme. The town is thronged with visitors, and during the day thousands of school children from the town and surroundin? eonntrv districts visited the vessel, which lav in the roadstead. The Government steamer Tutanekai and the local vessels conveyed children and adults to the warship.
