ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT

A sequel to the recent strike of miners at I'uponga and the burning uf the ] dwelling of a mine deputy named Walker ] took place at the L'oliingwood Magistrate's Court to-day, when live men William Broniilaw, Robert Grace, Daniel Bannon, Robert Ross and James Byers—■ were charged that on or about April 8, ; Willi intent to intimidate one Waninel Walker, they did injure the dwelling ot the said Walker. The cases were conducted by Detective Rawle, and occupied the Court the whole day. All the accused were committed for trial at tha next session of the Supreme Court at Nelson, bail being allowed each in £SO and one surety of £IOO. Bail was not immediately forthcoming in all cases, , but it is stated that the Federation oi I Labor will furnish the funds for all I the accused. The cases aroused great I interest, and the Court was crowded all I day. Large crowds of unionists and others assembled to meet Walker when .' he reached the township on horseback, but the presence of several constables i prevented any demonstration.
