Albon's rope-works at Mangere were totally destroyed by lire on Saturday night. The building and plant tfcrevalued at £750 and insured, for £4OO.

A fire at Arch Hill this morning partly destroyed a house owned and occupied by T. Hill. The building was insured for .£3OO in the London and Lancashire Oflieo and the furniture for £IOO-' in the National Office. '

I Westport, Last Night. A fire at Cape Foul wind, between 6and 0 o'clock this morning, destroyed a hotel owned by Costello and occupied by Mrs. Monigatti, and a tea-room, store * and billiard room owned and occuped by Mrs. Hamety. Both were practically [ new buildings, being erected only three i or four years ago. It was with difficulty ; that an extension of the lire was prevented. A hall adjoining Harnety'si f store caught, but the fire was extinguished before much' damage was done, and Miss Chilian's store, which is also the post office, adjoining the hotel, also had a narrow escape. Practically nothing was saved. The fire appears to have begun in llarnety's. As a pile of .. " coal was still alight in dangerous proximity to the hall, the Westport Fire Brigade went out by train this afternoon,. ; •• ■■ taking a quantity of water with them, owing to the local supply having run out, and they have now got the lire eom-v pletcly under control. The billiard tables in llarnety's and the hotel were both lost. The insurances have not yet been ascertained.

CONFLAGRATION OX' THF. CAURIXGTON ROAD.

On Friday night a new six-roomed" house on the Cn'rrington load, near Okato, owned', and occupied by Mr. F. Cowling, was completely destroyed, by fire with its'contcnts. Mr. Cowling. who* had been 'burning some stumps near thehouse, left for New Plymouth early in the evening when everything appeared safe, ns no wind was blowing at the time. Later the wind rose and fanned the llres into (lame, and evidently blew some sparks against the house. Mr. Cowling lias been particularly unfortunate, as be was burnt out in the bush tires that occurred some two years ago. The building was insured for £3OO in the Phoenix, and the contents for CIOO in the South British ofliee.

Xapier. Last Night. About 10 o'clock to-night an oilskiir factorv owned by Mr. .T. .'I. Blackburn, was totally destroved by lire. Seven machines, in addilltion to about 800 or 000 coats were destroyed, the damage being estimated at over f jOO. The building, stock and machines wore insured in the State Ofliee. The Are was canned. by a cat upsetting a bottle of methylated spirit on to a lighted candle.
