WELLINGTON MATCHES.

Per Press Association,

Wellington, Last Night,

The Rugby football season opened in fine weather on Saturday, but owing, probably, to several counter attractions and the increased charge for admission at the Athletic Park, where the chief matches were decided, they were very meagrely patronised. The play was patchy, many of the men evidently requirng more tuning up in regard to their "wind" apparatus. Results:-—Oriental 14 beat Poneke 3, Melrose 20 beat St. .Tames nil. Athletic 13 beat- Wellington 3, Pet-one 12 drew with Victoria College 12.
