At the Empire Commission, Dr. Gilruth, Administrator of the Northern Territory, described the development and possibilities of large areas as good as in the southern States. The idea of a great central desert was exploded. An attempt should be made to develop the country with white people agriculturally and pastorally. Judged by his own experience, he did not think that the climate would affect anybody's constitution much. The people of southern Europe would do well i,n the Territory.
