A meeting of twenty thousand discussed the Californian Land JiiJ!. Fiery onitions were delivered. Matsumara, a member of the Diet, urged the despatch of the fleet. Others recommended that questions between .Japan and America should be settled once and for nil; otherwise they would recur and lead to war. ft' tlie Bill passes, Japan will apply to the United States Federal (loveriunent for permission for Japanese to become naturalised.

Mr. Bryan has telegraphed to the Coveriior of California, asking liiiu to withhold his signature to the Anti-Alien Bill, on the ground that it violates the existing Japanese treaty.
