A CHARGE OF THEFT.

T>y Telegraph—Press' Association. Welligton, Last Night. David Irwin pleaded guilty in the Court to-day to the theft of fur goods valued at £SB from a local shop. Irwin was coming out of the shop early this morning when the'constable caught him with i the goods in his possession.

GISBORNE TRAMWAYS OPENED. Gisborne, Wednesday. The Gisborne municipal tramways were opened to-day by the .Mayor, Mr, Pettie, who drove'a car over the first section. General satisfaction was experienced at the soundness of the working and easy acceleration of the Edison storage battery cars. At a public function congratulations were offered that Gisborne was leading the Dominion in this form of traction. The public are being treated to joy rides on the tramcars this afternoon.
