Although dull, the weather was line for the opening of the Avondale Jockey Club's Autumn meeting. The totalisator handled £IO,OOO, as against £11,012 for the corresponding day last year. Stipendiary Steward Gordon was present and had Chaplin, the rider of Self, before the stewards for crossing in the straight. The committee cautioned the rider, but allowed the judge's placing to stand. Results:—

The -Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Autumn meeting commenced to-day in beautiful weather. The attendance was very large and the course was in spleridid order. The totalisator investments were £15,429, compared with £12,491 for the first day of the last Autumn meeting. Jones, the rider of Player in the Longlands Hurdles; was before the stewards for alleged interference with Hurakia. The protest was not sustained. Results:—
