ENTERTAINMENTS.

EMPIRE PICTURES. Everyone is familiar with the quaint little fairy story of "Cinderella" which takes pride of place in the present change of programme at the Empire Picture Palace. It is a spectacular story that lends itself admirably to pictorial representation, and the Selig Company have spared no expense in its production. The mounting of the pieture is on a scale of gorgeous magnificence, and is, moreover, true to detail. One is able to follow the Cinderella of younger days through her adventures closely, a feature being the beautiful transformation scenes. The transformation of the household drudge into a charming princess, of :>• pumpkin into a carriage, of the mise into horses, are much more fairy-like performances by means of the camera than is possible in any stage in terpretation. The costuming at the ball, the furnishings, and all the mountings are true to hook. The tit'll' role is taken by that talented American actress, Mabel Taliaferro, whose acting, in-thirt with the freshness and natural , grace of youth, is in admirable accord with the spirit of the story. This beautiful theme occupies nearly all the second half of the programme. Il was witnessed with rapt interest by a crowded audience on Saturday night, and it is safe to- say that .there will be full -houses to-night and to-morrow night, when "Cinderella" will again occupy pride of place, particularly when the supporting programme is of such high merit, including industrial, "From Forest to Mill": scenic. "Village Customs in Cevlon." "Tat, the Soothsayer" and "Alkali Ike Plays th.- Devil." are two comics that are irresistible merriment proilucVr-i. "Licu'enan! Hiring Quells a Rebellion" U another tine drama, worthy of being; starred on any programme. THEATRE ROYAL Pit TIKIIS. Owing to the Theatre being otherwise engaged there will be no pictures showin" to-night. To-morrow night a complete change of programme will he showing, including feature pictures of John Runny and Maurice Costello.
