Several newspapers have been prosecuted for publishing Ilodor's pronouncements. Eight thousand followers have notified the Synod of their intention to leave the orthodox church. The Synod decided to unfrock Ilodor, whose followers are pressing the Duma to secure the monk a public trial. (Ilodor founded a reform movement to the orthodox church which was threatening to overturn the bishops, hence his confinement.)
