PERSONAL.
The death is annuoneed of Mr. Thomas Manifold, a very old resident of ' Christchurch, at the age of seventy-five years. Mr. D. A. Gordon has resigned his position with Mr. F. Hall, chemist, in order to take up a more lucrative position in Melbourne, for which city he left yesterday morning. For the position of clerk to the Whangarei County Council there were forty two applicants. Mr. H. C. Hemphill, of Paparoa, was appointed on his own conditions, which considerably varied from those asked \rv the Council.
At last nigM's meeting of the Borough Council, Mr. C. ■'£.. Mills was appointed valuer for the Borough for one year. The applications were narrowed down to two, and one of the twain, Mr, E. Gilmour, subsequently withdrew (his application.
•Mrs. Wright, wife of Captain Wright, Hawera, met with a serious accident in London, having been run into by a motor bus. The accident happened about, five months ago (according to news received by the English mail, says the Star). Mrs. Wright, although making satisfactory progress, is yet far from well.
