RACING PERMITS. By Telegraph—Prejss Association. Auckland, Saturday. Mr. John Rowe, member of the Racing Commission, commenting on Mr. Massey's statement as to the possible restitution of the racing permit to the Rangitikei Club (Bulls), said that the Commission made it plain in its report that it did not consider there was any real need for the curtailment of the number of racing days in New Zealand, considering the scattered nature of the population. The Commission had to reduce the number of days, and did so to the best of their ability. Rangitikei was omitted on the excuse that it was quite'close both to Wanganui and Marton, and that it was without railway connection. As with other centres, the appointments were also defective. If the Rangitikei Club was given back its permit, presumably at the expense of "Wanganui or I Marton, no doubt other places would be ' encouraged by the success of the Rangitikei appeal. At Newcastle on Saturday the Tramway Handicap was won by the New Zealand horse Blackpool, with Veronica second and Renova third. Blackpool won by a length, with half a length between second and third.
