In the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Cooper delivered his reserved judgment in the appeal from the Magistrate's decision in the case Inspector of Factories v. Mc Vicar, upholding the S.M.'s decision. It practically means that board-ing-houses selling "meals are not restaurants under the Shops and Offices Amendment Act. THE REEFTON STRIKE. SUGGESTIONS FOR A SETTLEMENT. Reef ton, Last Night. The citizens' committee to-day received a wire from Sir A. R. Guinness stating that the deadlock had been referred to the Arbitration Court. It is suggested that, pending a workshould be resumed at the mines. A deputation waited on the general manager of thp Consolidated Goldfield3 and presented the suggestion. Mr. Evans agreed to forward the proposition to the Mine Owners' Association. Owing to the exodus, the single men eominsr off the road works have not swelled the union roll as much as was expected. Only nineteen names Inve been recorded as an increase. The countv is still employing all the men it possibly can.
