BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY REPORTS. Monthly reports, as follow, will be presented at to-night's meeting of the Borough Council.— ENGINEER'S REPORT. The past month has been very severe, on the streets and roads, and approximately 300 cubic yards of patching has been done. Thirty-five chains of footpaths have been repaired and covered with gaoi gravel, and will he tarred and sanded as soon as they are sufficiently hard. No street formation work has been carried out owing to the wet weather. The. waterworks caretaker reports everything to be working satisfactorily, and that the repairs to the old waterworks reserve are being attended to. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER'S REPORT. EXTENSIONS.

Forebay.—Some of the ironwork is now to hand, but we have no word yet as to when the valves main screen, etc., may be expected. Pipe Line.—The excavation for this work has been completed, the scour main laid from the forebay to tail race, and concrete for the anchor blocks is now being put in. The contractors have also laid their tram line on the slope for lowering these sections, and as soon as the special pipes, etc., come to hand they should be able to start putting the pipes in place. Building. —The concrete walls have been carried up to the full height, and the roof is now being put on. Machinery.—The whole of the machinery under Messrs. Turnbull and .Tones' contract has now been delivered at the powerhouse. WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee recommend that the borough engine- be authorised to expend not exceeding C2 10s in forming a footpath on the western side of David street from the Eliot road towards the Old People's Home, provided the contributions set in the letter from Messrs. Sole and Putt be received; that the letter from Mr. ,T. J. Ehvin offering gravel to be placed on the Waiwaka Terrace be referred to the borough engineer to report upon; that the application of Mr. A. Tomlinson for access to section lOOfi be referred to the borough engineer to accede to; that Mr. J. W. Blyde he informed that the borough engineer is formulating a scheme for water supply to the suburbs, and that until the scheme has been considered by the Council his application for water supply at Dartmoor cannot be dealt with; that the application of Mr. F. Richards for an entrance to his property Avenue road be referred to the borough engineer to report upon, that the letters from the St. Aubyn Town Board with reference to levels of Gaine street und proposed work in Cutfield road be referred to a committee consisting of His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Gilbert, Mannix and Morev, to confer with the board and report; that His Worship the Mayor and Cr. St-ocker be appointed to sign the deed of adjustment between the Borough Council and the Taranaki County in connection with the area merged on the 31st March last, and to affix the seal of the borough thereto; that the action of His Worship the Mayor in accepting Mr. Rundle's offer of easement over section 195 be confirmed; that upon the borough engineer verifying the proportion of the distances, the offer of Mr. T. V. Simons to pay £2O per annum for extraordinary traffic be accepted for a period of one year from April 1, 1912; that His Worship the Mayor and Crs. Buttimore he appointed the Council's representatives on the New Plymouth Beautifying Society; that the Mayor be appointed the Council's representatives to the Municipal Conference; that the borough inspector be instructed to give filial notices to the property owners set out in his report to connect with the sewers, and that he report to the next Council meeting the names of those who have not complied with his notices; that the New Plymouth Borough Council approves of the provisions of the local Bill proposed to be called the New Plymouth Huatoki Stream Diversion and Exchange Act, 1.012," and that a copy of this resolution he sent to the Minister for Public. Works, the Hon. Thomas Kelly, and the Hon. Oliver Samuel, and to each member for the provincial district, with a request that they use their best endeavors to get the Bill in the House of Representatives; that a copy of the plan of the proposed new street between Wakefield street amTHendrie street be forwarded to the High School Board and Mr. Grayling, and they be asked if they will consent to the closing of the portion of Hendrie street as set out in the plan; that the borough engineer be authorised to proceed with the following work in Liardet street: (1) Kerbing and channelling western side from Courtenav street to Pendarves street (estimated cost ,C(i0) ; (2) forming the footpath and covering with gaol gravel (estimated cost £2O), the work to be constructed to suit the present levels; that the borough engineer be instructed to prepare plans for house, numbering; that public urinals be constructed in Brougham street, south of Devon street, and that the borough engineer be authorised to procure the necessary sanitary appliances; that the borough engineer be instructed to submit estimates for kerbing the footpath on both sides of St. Aubyn street from Cutfield road to Morlev street-,' and for kerbing the footpath on the south side of Iline street from Cutfield road to Mprley street.

RESERVES COMMITTEE. This committee recommends that Robert Bennock be appointed sexton; that this Council withdraw its consent to the agreement made bv Messrs. Stephen and ■Tames Rye with the Public Works Department, dated February 4, 1003, relating to the use of sublivisions 9 and 14 of section 1, block 11, Xgaere Survey District, having regard, amongst other things, to the fact that the Public Works Department only applied for temporary occupation of the land so long ago as 190", and the solicitors to the Council be authorised to give the proper notices; that failing any satisfactory arrangement for the payment of damages commensurate with the injuries sustained, (lie borough solicitors bo authorised to take proceedings necessary to protect the interests of the Council; that the fire, insurance on the Town Hall be reduced to £(100; that th salary of the caretaker of the baths be increased by £l2 per annum, provided he carries out certain work Lor Hie Reserves Committee during the months of June, July and August in mk-U year, the extra £l2 to be charged to Hie vote for upkeep of reserves.
