FATAL EXPLOSION
DISTRESSING ACCIDENT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 28, 9.40 p.m. Sydney, May 28. Two more victims have succumbed to their injuries from the blasting accident. Their names are Abbott and Cooke. McDonell, Lewis, 'Steffens, Heald, Karnes, Nurse and three others were also injured. The cause of the accident is unknown. About thirty men were employed in the quarry. There were some miraculous escapes. Abbott audi Steffens. working close to the fatal blast, were killed, and a tliird man escaped almost scatheless. The other deceased were Loading a dray some distance away. A liuge mass of stone was hurled on to the top of the drav, smashing it and killing the horse and three men, and fatally injuring two others. T.he driver, Campbell, was thrown over the horse's head but was not seriously hurt. Received 29, 12.55 a.m. Sydney, May 28.
Information from other sources states that Steffens and Ileald are both seriously injured, and the report of their d-eaths is unconfirmed.
