WAIROA HARBOR WORKS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wairoa, Friday. Sir James Carroll will drive the first pile of the harbor works on Mav 20. The Maoris are arranging a big hui. and in the evening Sir James Carroll will be banquetted and presented with a testimonial. ABOLITION OF ROAD BOARDS. Wanganui, Fridav. The Wanganui County Council, at a meeting to-day, carried a motion to take over the control of all roads in the road board districts within its boundaries. This practically means the abolition »f seven road boards in the county and the substitution of ridings. THE BITER BIT. Auckland. Friday. In consequence of the dispute between the aerated water manufacturers and ■ hotelkcepers upon prices being advanced over 60 per cent., the latter resolved to start a business, to be known as the Auckland Licensed Victuallers' Aerated Water Factory, with a capital of £3OOO in pound shares, which were subscribed immediately. It is intended to sell only to hotelkeepers. A LABOR CASE. G-reymouth, Friday. Mr. Justice Denniston reserved' his judgment in the case Blanche v. the Greymouth Wharf Laborers' Union, a claim for £3OO damages for loss of employment as foreman of the Union Company at Greymouth. He was awarded judgment for £75, with costs on the lowest scale.
