Dow Stewart, the well-known breeder of longwool stud eheep in New Zealand, in a letter to the press, strongly protests against the inspection fees imposed by the Commonwealth on stoek imported from New Zealand. He dedares that as a result New Zealand breeders are not exhiibting at the Sydney shows. It will prove a serious thing to Australia if settlers cannot import the 1 best New Zealand sheep so as to improve their stock and the quality of mutton for the Home markets. A FATAL ACCIDENT. Received 23, 1.15 a.m. Brisbane, April 22. Four men named Brown, Donoghue, Wilson and Cord illy were killed by a fall of stone in a quartz mine at Cloncurry.
