Mr. U. Okey, M.8., is back in New Plymouth. Mr. C. K. Wilson, M.P. for Taumarunui, was in town on Saturday. Mr. J. M. Povnter has been appointed town clerk of Klllum. There were 62 applicants. The Hon. T. Thompson, Ministe'r of Jiistice„in the last Seddon Administration, is visiting New Plymouth. He will leave this morning for Marton. Mr. R. A. Wright, late M.P. for Weilington South, announces his candidature for the mayoralty of Wellington. Mr. Shirtcliffe has declined nomination. Mr. A. V. Sturtevant, assistant land registrar at New Plymouth, has been appointed District Land Registrar, Examiner of Titles, and Registrar of Deeds. Mr. W. ■ T. Jennings, ex-member lor Taumarunui, and Mr. Bertrand, despatched telegrams of congratulation to I7r. Buck on Saturday, on his elevation to Ministerial rank. Dr. Buck was born at Urenui. Miss Ford, infant mistress at the Fitzroy School, who is under transfer to the Central School, was, on Friday afternoon, entertained by the teachers and scholars. Miss Ford was also the recipient of a presentation. Mr. Felix Blei, business manager for Jansen, America's greatest transformist, and his own big American company, is on a visit to New Plymouth making arrangements for the company's appearance here next week. Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Kellow, who are leaving for Gonville, Wanganui, were entertained in the Whiteley Hall on Friday night. During the evening eulogistic references were made to Mr. Kellow's work while stationed at New Plymouth. Mr. J. E. Smith, Resident Commissioner for the Cook Islands, arrived in Wellington on Saturday by the Aorangi. He will take charge of a tfranch of the civil service to be known as the Cook Islands Department, which will be separated from the Justice Department, and will probably be administered by the Hon. Dr. Te Rangihiroa. The appointment of Mr. Smith's successor in the Islands has not yet been considered. The funeral of th® late Mr. C. A. Benbow, who died so suddenly on Thursday, to the grief of the whole community, took place yesterday afternoon, and was the largest seen in New Plymouth for years. Nearly every institution in the town was represented, as well as the sports clubs to which he was attached. The latter supplied the bearers. The interment was made in the Te Henui eemetry, the Rev. J. W. Bulrton officiating at the graveside, the service being very impressive. A touching incident was the laying on the coffin of a flower by each member of deceased's Sunday school class, in turn. The floral tributes were many.
