OBITUARY.
MR. c. a. benbow. Much regret was occasioned in New Plymouth yesterday nt the untimely death of Mr. C. A. 'Benbow, the district manager of the A.M.I'. Society, which occurred at an early hour yesterday morning. His end was painfully sudden. Only on MomVy last he was about his office as usual. For some months past he had not enjoyed the best of health, and a slight cold brought on pleurisy, pneumonia, and then the end. Coming out to New Zealand from the Old Country with his parents when only four years of age, Mr. Benbow was the only son of the late Mr. C. W. Benbow, erstwhile manager in Wellington of the South British Insurance Co. He entered the service of the A.M.P. Society in 1887, after having been educated at Wellington College. While at Wellington he, took a prominent position in cricket, playing pom 1886 till 1902 in senior matches. In 1902 he married Miss Alice Birch, daughter of Mr. G. B. Birch, of Wellington. In March, 1905, he opened up a new branch for the A.MJP. Society in New Plymouth, where he lias since resided.. There will be many who will miss the deceased gentleman, for he was a keen sport and a popular man of business. Last year he was captain of the Ngamotu Golf Club, and as a cricketer lie played for the Carrington Road Club. He was also associated with the Orchestral Society, and was a prominent member of the Whiteley Church, having filled the offices of trustee and society steward. Quite, recently at Vogeltown he organised a Sunday school. Mr. Benbow. who was only 41 years of age, is mourned by a widow, a daughter 8 years of age, and an infant son. The funeral will leave his residence, Vogeltown, at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday for the Hemii Cemetery.
