CONGESTION AT THE DOCKS. By CUble—Press Association—Copyright London, October 20. There is serious congestion in the London docks as the result of the August strikes. Four hundred truck loads yesterday were turned back at the Albert Docks because no ships were ready. Shipowners blame the dock authorities for not employing more hands. They state that many ships nre leaving half filled. The dockers are more dilatory since the strike.

The Industrial Council has arranged a meeting for November 7 between Houlder Bros, and the Newport dockers' representatives to discuss a settlement. The Swansea dockers decided to work the Ilorusby Grange, but not to handle other Houlder vessels until a settlement has been effected. DEMANDS OF RAILWAYMEN. London, October 29. Several meetings of railwaymen in the provinces to-day passed resolutions demanding the recognition of unions, shorter hours, and increased pay. MAY STRIKE AGAIN. The raihvavmen at Leeds, Chester, Northampton, Burton-on-Trent, Cardiff and Swansea are repudiating the Commission's findings, and have instructed their executives to seek immediate redress, if necessary by a strike. Keir-llardie, speaking at Sunderland, hoped the railwaymen would trust their leaders to deal with the disappointing report and loyally aecept the findings. Unity was the one thing essential. It was better to patiently await it than to spoil the outlook by rashness. If a strike was inevitable, joint action with the colliers should be secured. This combination would beat all the powers, including the military, that could be brought against it. ENGLISH TRANSPORT WORKERS. THREATEN TO STRIKE. Received 31, 12.50 a.m. London, October 30. The transport workers at Hull, in view of supporting the oil mill strikers, resolved not to handle goods to or from the mills. Any dismissals will be the signal for a general strike. MT. LYELL DISPUTE. Melbourne, October 30. The general manager of the Lyell Company has stated that the published terms of the agreement were wrong. The directors only agreed to meet in conference after the men had resumed work, It is understood by both sides that White will not be reinstated.
