TAIERI MILK SUPPLY CO.

BIG DROP IN BUTTER EXPORT. V.y Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The twenty-seventh annual meeting of ■the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Co. was held to-day. About 100 shareholders were present, Mr. W. Nicholson presiding.

The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said: "Results for the year show a very marked falling off in the milk supply, owing to continual dryness, and tho export of both butter and cheese shows a shrinkage of nearly one-half for the season 1000-10. We exported 0048 crates of cheese and 20,o()0 boxes of butter, and for 1010 to 10.11 we exported 4.>00 crates of cheese and 14,000 boxes of butter. During the past season only SOO boxes of butter and 500 crates of cheese were exported to South Africa, and about 100 boxes of butter to British Columbia. In 1007-8 we exported to South Africa <JO2S boxes of butter, but the dry season ex perienced and the general drawbacks in the way of production have materially altered the conditions. Indications from British Columbia are good for the coming season, but everything in the ivnv of trade will depend upon the climatic conditions. The prices realised for the butter exported just covered the ad vances. The directors are making inquiries with the object of inaugurating an egg industry as part of the company's business. The outlook for the present season is exceptionally good. Prices for both butter and cheese are high and will enable the company to pay suppliers a good price. The loss to the dairy -farmers of the. Dominion owing to the shortage of grass and subsequent decrease of butter, amounted last year to the enormous sum of 13(10,0110."' The chairman intimated that the company intended to avail itself of the services of the lady ehecsemaljer engaged by tho Government. Tho 'report -and balance-sheet were adopted. Messrs. Bohlt and Nicholson were reelected directors.
