OBITUARY.

A NEW SOUTH WALES LEGISLATOR. By ('able—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, October 26. The death is announced of Mr. Donald MacDonell, Chief Secretary for New South Wales. Received 26. 5.35 p.m. Sydney, October 20. Mr. MacDonell's deatli is regarded as a great blow to the Labor movement. The Assembly met and adjourned out of respect to the deceased. Members of both sides expressed their deep regret.

The late Mr. MacDonell was generally regarded as one of the most popular and most able members of the Cabinet. Besides being Chief Secretary, he was general secretary of the Australian Workers' 'Union, the biggest union in the Commonwealth.

The Federal caucus was sitting when it was informed of Mr. MacDonell's death. The caucus immediately adjourned.
