A Melbourne cablegram reports the death of Mr. Cussen, M.L.A. Mr. H. D. Vickery has been appointed secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce in succession to the late Mr. S. Carroll. Mr. C. W. Govett has Ibooked his passage by the Marmora, leaving London on September 9, and is expected to arrive in New Plymouth about the end of October. At the annual meeting of the Waver-ley-Wa/itofaara Racing Club on Saturday the president, Mr. W. Wilson, moved that the club place on record its appreciation of the services rendered by its late secretary, Mr. J. W. Emmerson, and tenders its sincere sympathy to Mrs. Emmerson and family in the loss they have sustained. - Be ialso moved that a compassionate allowance of one year's salary—£3s be made them. This was carried unanimously, all members standing.
