THROWN OPEN TO SETTLERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The first ten of the orchards prepared and planted by the Department of Agriculture at Waercnga are now being offered for selection. This marks an important phase in the development of tha scheme for providing ready-made orchardH for settlers desirous of taking to fruit culture. The orchards will be obtainable on the optional system of tenure. The ten orchards vary from Si acres to 4S acres in extent. The time for receiving applications for these orchards closed to-day. As was expected, the orchards were eagerly sought after, over 70 applications being received. A few more may come by post.
