GOLF

THE TARAHUA CLUB. Yesterday the Carrington Road Club altered its name to ''Tarahua," the Maori name for the locality in which the links are situated, and formally opened the season. The weather was anything but promising, but notwithstanding, about fifteen visitors and thirty members put in an appearance. The president (Mr. T. C. IM), in declaring the season open, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, and commented on the improvements that had lately been effected to the Jinks, and the increasing strength, numerically and financially, of the club. Mixed foursomes were played, the intention being to play 10 holes, but heavy showers of rain fell at intervals, and, in most cases, only nine holes were finished. The best cards returned were those of Miss Brewster and Perham (51) and Miss Kirkby and Johnston (51). Refreshments were provided by Mrs. List and dispensed by her and Mesdames G. Neal, Marks and Miss Putt.

At the conclusion of the afternoon, the Rev. F. 6. Evans returned thanks, on behalf of-the visitors;'for the hospitality extended and the enjoyment derived from the afternoon's play, in spite of the inclement weather, the president acknowledging the compliment on behalf of the Tarahuas.'
